Sunless
Tanning with a Fog

The
US Patent and Trademark Office issued a patent entitled "Method
of and Apparatus for Automatically Coating the HumanBody: Fogging
Technology" to Laughlin Products, Inc. (LPI). LPI is the
parent company of Mist-On Systems. The Inventer was Dr. Tom Laughlin,
and the patent's issue date is October 9, 2001. Click any
of the figures to see the patent in full.
This
patent discloses the use of a fog as the atomization vehicle.
A fog is an ultra-fine mist that can remain suspended in air.
The proper use of air currents within the booth and around the
body of the tanner facilitates the efficient deposition of the
atomized tanning solution on the tanner. The swiriling clouds
of liquid-laden air can be controlled to minimize the solution
loss through filtration, precipitation, or adherence to the walls
of the booth.
This
is the fifth patent issued to Laughlin Products with respect to
this technology. LPI is currently awaiting the issuance of several
more recently-allowed patents.
